Position:Category Manager and Asistant Category Manager Location:Mumbai/ChennaiReporting to:Head, Category ManagementWe are looking for Category Manager and Asistant Category manager role exists in order to meet Synergy's Category Management needs in each category, by planning category management requirements and negotiation, in adherence to category strategy and budget.Key Roles and ResponsibilitiesAssist annual procurement strategyAccountable for providing input to Synergy overall Category strategy through annual projection of items and purchase plans within own categoryDerive insight from historical purchase data and industry trends to project an annual Category plan within own category forSynergy vesselsAssist Head, Category in the development of Category strategy with derived insights, and align category plan with developed procurement strategySource for potential suppliersAccountable for sourcing for potential suppliers within category, and managing a supplier databaseIdentify and shortlist a selection of qualified suppliers based on RFQ specifications from Group Managers, and assigned budgetDocument a list of qualified suppliers for each category to assist category strategy in developing database of approved suppliersMeet category saving targetsAccountable for meeting category saving targets as determined by Head, Procurement.Develop negotiation, cost comparison and purchasing strategies to ensure professional relationships and Synergy economy ofscale are leveraged upon to achieve saving targetsWork with Procurement Analysts to document final cost of purchase to track actual spending against target to measure success of category saving efforts, and report findings to Head, Category management to inform budget decisionsDrive continuous improvement within the departmentResponsible for implementing and driving continuous improvement initiatives through employees within the departmentCollaborate with Head, Category Management and employees within the department to identify improvements that can be made to policies, processes or technological infrastructure.Drive the operationalization and implementation of improvement initiatives within the department through employees in the departmentMonitor adherence to timeline and budget for continuous improvement projects and technological implementations within the department and report progress to Head, Category Management.Monitor and report improvement in outcomes within the department.Day-to-day operationsAccountable for leading negotiation efforts between Synergy and suppliersLead negotiations efforts between Synergy and suppliers to ensure Synergys economy of scale and leveraged upon for cost control and professional relationships are built and strengthenedCollaborate with Purchasing Officers and Technical Assistants to clearly communicate details of agreed upon contract to develop accurate purchase ordersManage costsResponsible for adherence of all department operations to budgetAccountable for the aggregation, projection and presentation of the annual budget for the departmentAssist Head, Procurement in the identification, escalation and resolution of areas of anomaly in budget reports for the departmentDevelop human capitalDevelop capabilities of junior team members through formal or informal mentorshipDrive the identification and addressing of gaps in competencies through observation of day-to-day operations and provide feedback to junior team members and their direct reports for improvement.Relationship (mostly Internal and or External) and Nature of CommunicationPrimarily maintains relationships with Head, Procurement and Head Category as well as key external stakeholders such as suppliersCollaborates with Head, Procurement and Head Category reports to ensure purchasing activities fulfill requirements is carried out efficiently and with key external stakeholders to ensure accuracy of purchaseJob Experience, Functional Knowledge and Qualifications8-9 years of total shipping industry experience in category management of spend ranging from 50-60 million USD OR Technical background with similar years of experience combined with category management in equipment maintenance and repair is a must.Experience in dealing with Direct Categories will be an added advantage.Analytical approach with ability to determine Make vs. Buy cost models TCO /TVO (total cost of operations/ total value of operations)Competent in building cost modelsSkilled negotiator inclined towards building supplier partnerships and year on year deflationary spend profile of categories.In-depth understanding of operational requirements in the ship management industryBachelors in Engg, Supply Chain Management, or related fields
