  • The Enterprise Data Architect is the technical visionary that functions as the catalyst and facilitator of Enterprise Data Management initiatives for the organization. Working closely with the Chief Data Officer and Application Management, the Enterprise Data Architect orchestrates data management across all business units. Along with the Chief Data Officer, Data Trustees and Business Data Stewards, provide support to ensure data management initiatives and sustaining processes are aligned with the strategic business objectives.
  • Provides leadership and direction for the definition of an enterprise data architecture that supports business information needs
  • Provides support to the business for cross-business definition of data standards, rules, and hierarchy
  • Ensures the alignment of the Business Data requirements with the information systems
  • Provides support to projects and initiatives in development and refinement of data processes in accordance with defined standards
  • Recommends adjustments to data policies and procedures as necessary to improve key performance indicators
  • Partners with the Chief Data Officer to facilitate data quality and data management issues that span multiple business units, geographies or data objects

What will I be doing

  • Architecture
  • Spearheads development of the Enterprise Data Model, which encompasses all governed objects and includes the following:
    • End-to-end data flow
    • Master data model
    • Data architecture process standards
    • Metadata management infrastructure strategy
  • Responsible for the overall data architecture in the enterprise
  • Works with IT and Business teams to ensure the alignment of the Data Architecture to Business Data requirements
  • Provides cross enterprise data object expertise in order to integrate multiple data objects
  • Defines data, information and underlying technology (taxonomy/DB) roadmap
  • Develops enterprise-level conceptual, logical and physical data models working in concert with Enterprise Data Management objectives
  • Establishes and socializes data/database architecture guiding principles and design goals
  • Establishes information models, data flows and data lifecycles throughout the enterprise architecture
  • Standards
  • Facilitates and reviews enterprise wide data dictionaries and taxonomies, working closely with object domain experts
  • Ensures data objects are in compliance with data architecture, data quality, data standards and data structures
  • Establishes, trains and enforces standards for data architecture
  • Provides input to the Chief Data Officer to define criteria and standards for data quality and data metrics validation and testing
  • Defines "Best Practice" standard data processes
  • Initiates adjustments to data policies and procedures as necessary to improve key performance indicators
  • Coordinates with the Global Business Data Officer to develop standard data quality metrics
  • Governance
  • Supports definition, approval, publication and maintenance of the Corporate Data Policy and supporting guidelines, standards and procedures
  • Supports definition, approval and execution of the Corporate Data Quality Program
  • Assists the Chief Data Officer to facilitate data quality and data management issues that span multiple data object domains
  • Quality
  • Provides support to the Chief Data Officer in efforts to monitor performance indicators/metrics and reports
  • Ensures that projects comply with the data management plan template
  • Provides input into the development of advanced data quality metrics from high level business requirements that can be applied to multiple data object domains
  • Supports execution of major new data quality measurement initiatives
  • Provides input into the development of standards definitions for data quality control and techniques for specialized data metrics
  • Deployment
  • Supports project teams as follows:
    • Reviews conceptual, logical and physical designs and specifications
    • Reviews structured and un-structured data and information requirements
    • Provides technical approaches related to data architecture
    • Provides Data architecture recommendations
  • Establishes formal policies and procedures for Data Model review and approval
  • Supports efforts to provide data awareness education for senior and upper management
  • Identifies, sizes and develops recommendations for data programs and initiatives as input to the IT Staff, CIO and budgeting processes
  • Works with the Chief Data Officer in the identification of root causes of major data problems and the driving of implementation of sustainable solutions
  • Educates and trains Data Trustees and Business Data Stewards on technical data architecture precepts, requirements and vision
  • Other
  • Identifies and ensures implementation of best practices, tools and standards (ER modeling, normalization, data security, etc)

What skills do I need

  • Expert knowledge of enterprise-wide Data Quality Management, Data Resource Management, Data Stewardship and/ or Data Administration programs and tools
  • Expert knowledge of data technologies and architecture:
    • Data architecture
    • Master Data Hub architecture, data design and implementation
    • Data Quality Management and Data Architecture standardization
    • Data Warehouse architecture, data design and implementation
    • Metadata management, design and integration
    • Data and process modeling tools (e.g., ARIS)
    • Interface technologies
    • Modeling, designing, and developing Oracle and MS SQL Server based databases
  • Strong understanding of the Systems Development Life Cycle and methodologies, and familiarity with process improvement frameworks
  • Strong experience in object-oriented design, XML, distributed systems, Internet/intranet strategies the .NET platform and services oriented architecture
  • Collaboration and communication skills to work with global subject matter expert organizations and individuals to provide effective enterprise data management
  • Maintains competency with multiple business Process Scenarios (Order to Cash, Procure to Pay, etc.)
  • Expertise with Microsoft Office products, including standard Office tools as well as MS Project and MS Visio
  • Proven ability leading cross-functional teams at all organizational levels in dealing with complex issues
